THURADAY 10TH SEPTEMBER - FRIDAY 11TH SEPTEMBER 2015
Over a period of two days, I was given the task to create a magazine cover and contents page for Blackfen School. Using Adobe Photoshop, I began to create my cover and contents. This was my first time using Photoshop so it was difficult to figure out at first. Once I got use to the tools, I began creating my masthead, cover-lines and how they would be placed on the magazine. I really enjoyed this task as I was able to experiment the different themes I could go with making the cover and contents. The next day I had to take 5 photos of a student from the school at a medium close up. As well as this, I was also tasked on getting 5 other images that relate to the school. Once I got what I needed, I then imported the photos onto Photoshop and finished my magazine cover and contents. I really enjoyed this task as I got to experience new software as well as explore different creative themes.
THURSDAY 17TH SEPTEMBER 2015
Today we started to create our website in order on WIX. We spent our lesson setting up the basic website layout as well as adding the pages to the website. My first step was to choose a theme/layout that reflected on my personality as well as well as it being clear to read and look professional at the same time. My next step was to add the pages that I would need on my website. I created 7 pages in total; Home, Skills Development Log, Preliminary Task, Research Into Existing Media, Audience Research, Drafting and Evaluations. My final step was to adjust the size and how my pages were set up. This was really fun to do as I got to experiment with the different tools on the website. Although the website was difficult to use at first as this was my first time using this program, I managed to get the hang of it and use it effectively.
FRIDAY 18TH SEPTEMBER 2015
I uploaded both my cover and contents pages for Blackfen Magazine up on the Preliminary Task page.
THURSDAY 24TH SEPTEMBER - FRIDAY 25TH SEPTEMBER 2015
For my next task, I was asked to look at different contents pages of the same genre of what I've been researching. I had to analyses each contents page through the number of images, who and how many people were used, amount of columns and sections used and the colour scheme used. This was very interesting as I could spot the similarities and the differences between each contents page. It also gave me inspiration for what I would do for when I create my contents page for my magazine. The work took me over a period of two days and I uploaded my work onto the Research into Existing Media page.
THURSDAY 1ST OCTOBER 2015
For homework, I had to start to think about my music magazine. I was tasked with coming up with 3-5 potential magazine names, 6-8 potential fonts for the Masthead and 6-10 names of made up band/singers/DJs/Rappers. I had to make sure that everything I created was both original as well as relevant to the music genre I picked, which is Pop Punk. Once I came up with everything, I uploaded it to the Drafting Page.
FRIDAY 9TH OCTOBER 2015
I received back my textual analysis of the cover I analysed. We had to get our work peer assessed. I marked Lily Gartside’s work whilst she marked mine. Lily included everything that was required as well as going into full detail and analysis into her work. However, I believed she could have included more terminology such as denotes. I also said she didn’t include kickers and that she would need to include that too. I gave Lily back her work as she gave me back mine. Her feedback was the same to mine. After making all corrections and improvements, I uploaded my work to the Textual Analysis (Cover) page.
