MEDIA COURSEWORK

I was tasked to create a magazine cover and contents page for Blackfen School for Girls. My requirement was to get a photo of a student of Blackfen at a medium close up for the cover. I also had to get a photo that links in with the school for the contents page.

I first started off with my magazine cover. Using Adobe Photoshop, I began looking through fonts and what I would choose for the Masthead. I chose the colour white and the font Century Gothic as it was a Sans Serif Font as I wanted to magazine to look modern. I then decided to put a black rectangle behind the Masthead in order for the text to stand. I than began to focus on my cover lines. I made my main cover line “Canteen Cuts” as the alliteration made it sound interesting. I included 4 other smaller cover lines further down the page in order to make it more like a magazine. I made the cover-lines Red, White and Black. I also added the date of the magazine at the top of the page as well as going onto google and imported a barcode to place at the bottom of my cover. To finish of my magazine, I took a photo of my sister at a medium close up and imported it into the magazine behind what I had made already. Once I matched the scale I turned the image black and white in order for it to match the colour scheme of the magazine.

Once my cover was complete I began to move onto my contents page. I made the title of the contents page similar to my Masthead, only smaller. Using the same font and colour scheme as last time, I began recreating the same contents as the cover lines. I had done this so the theme was kept consistent on my work. I made sure to include page numbers on the sides so people would know what page each content is on. Finally to complete my contents page I took a photo of the corridor at a canted shot. I imported the photo into the magazine behind the work again. I finally adjusted the brightness of the image so that the next was clearer to read.

Overall I am really happy on how my Prelimnary task turned out as I was able to explore Photoshop for the first time which would help me in the future to create my Music Magazine.
